Language videos

Lesson-hook videos are narrated in the subject's own language.

Eight languages on top of English and Danish: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian. The narrator is picked from the subject automatically — and teachers can force a specific language whenever they want.

What's new

Eight languages out of the box

German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian — alongside Danish and English. Each language has its own fallback narrator line.

Auto-detection from the subject

Type the subject as 'German' or 'Tysk' — the system picks the right narrator. Zero extra clicks for MFL teachers.

Manual override

Reading a Spanish novel inside an English lesson? Force the narrator to Spanish per video so the framing follows the context.

Cache per language

Language is part of the prompt hash. German and English narrations of the same prompt cache independently — no collisions, faster re-runs.

Natural pronunciation

The narrator is trained in the target language — no heavy English accent when Goethe is quoted in German.

Privacy by default

PII scrubbing before every AI call. Prompts are not retained at the provider, and pupil names never leave EU hosting.

Examples from the classroom

MFL teacher opens the lesson

In Year 9 German, the teacher plays the lesson-hook video. The Goethe extract is read in correct German, and pupils with dyslexia hear the same voice in their overview.

Lower years meet French

A Year 3 theme touches French. The teacher forces the narrator to French for a single unit — children hear the rhythm before they meet the words.

Home learning, together

A parent plays a Spanish recap on a Sunday revision session. The voice supports the text rather than pulling focus away from it.

Cross-curricular project

Citizenship and MFL run an EU week. English narration for the UK, German for Germany — without manual tagging.

Security & compliance

EU hosting

The whole pipeline runs on Hetzner in Germany (primary) and Finland (backup). Videos cache in the same region as the audio.

PII scrubbing before AI

CPR, NI, email and phone are blocked before the prompt leaves our edge — regardless of language.

Frequently asked questions

Do we pick the language every time?

No. If the subject name is unambiguous (German, Tysk, Spanish, Spansk etc.) the choice is automatic. Force a language only when context demands it.

What happens if the AI stumbles?

Each language ships with a short fallback line in the target tongue. Pupils always hear something that sounds right — never English fragments.

Which subjects does this cover today?

It is not limited to MFL — you can force German in a history unit on WW2 or French in a food technology unit. It is one setting per video.

The narrator speaks the lesson's own language

When the subject is German, the lesson-hook video sounds German. When it's Spanish, pupils hear a Spanish voice. Eight languages out of the box, with auto-detection from the subject.
