Which model does Uggi use, and who sees the pupil's messages?

Uggi runs on OpenAI gpt-4o-mini through our own OPENAI_API_KEY with store:false — messages are not retained by OpenAI and never used for training. We store them in our database on the school's own Supabase instance (EU-hosted) with standard access control.

Why is Socratic mode the default?

Because the orb is meant to help the pupil learn — not do the work for them. Pupils can always type 'just explain', and teachers can flip a class into plain-explain mode through productivity AI controls.

What happens if a pupil writes something private or worrying?

NI numbers, emails and similar tokens are blocked server-side before the call is sent. If Uggi spots a worried tone it points the pupil toward a trusted adult — and the safeguarding flow can be triggered from the same orb if the school has enabled it.

The Uggi orb lives in the bottom-right corner of every page. It knows which lesson, assignment or screen the pupil is on, and replies using the Socratic method by default. Built for schools: our own OpenAI key, outbound PII scrubbing, no training on pupil data, and an age-appropriate safety layer.

Page-aware context

Each page registers what the pupil is looking at (lesson, assignment, exam, grade) via useRegisterUggiContext. Uggi doesn't have to ask — it already knows.

Socratic method by default

Uggi asks one helpful question, then a hint, and only reveals the full answer if the pupil asks. Teachers can switch to plain-explain mode.

PII scrubbing and safety layer

CPR, NI numbers and emails are blocked server-side (422) before the call reaches OpenAI. The system prompt forbids full names, and worried messages point the pupil toward a trusted adult.

Bilingual da / en-GB

Uggi always replies in the UI language. Danish schools get Danish; mystudent.ai schools get British English — no teacher configuration needed.

The same orb for teachers (plan a lesson, draft feedback) and parents (understand grades, talk to your child) — with role-tuned prompts and permissions.

The pupil who is stuck

Clicks the orb in the middle of an assignment. Uggi knows which task it is, asks a Socratic question, and helps without giving the answer away.

The teacher planning a lesson

Asks Uggi for an example that matches a VARK group — the orb knows the lesson plan and proposes adaptations that fit.

The parent decoding a grade

Opens the orb on /parent/karakterer. Uggi explains the 7-step scale and suggests three concrete conversation starters — without ever using the child's full name.
